Welcome!
We are musical instrument makers and restorers, professionally trained at the internationally acclaimed Newark School of Violin Making, focusing particularly on instruments of the violin and mandolin families. We are also very interested in the baroque forms of these instruments.
We are lucky enough to be based in an idyllic thatched cottage, in the village of Shepreth. While we are situated in the countryside of South Cambridgshire we are far from isolated, as Shepreth is only a ten minute train ride from central Cambridge or Royston (on the mainline to Kings Cross, London), quite close to the A10 and for those coming from further afield, easily accessible from the M11. We are happy to welcome visitors to our workshop, but please arrange an appointment with us beforehand, in order to avoid disappointment.
Jonathan manages the workshop at Evans-Pughe Strings of Hitchin, where he undertakes repair and restoration work on bowed and plucked stringed instruments, varying from 16th century violins and 18th century citterns, to 20th century mandolins, violas and cellos (and every other permutation :-) ).
Rebecca teaches violin making, and undertakes restoration work on violin family instruments at the Cambridge Violin Makers Workshop
At home we have a fully equipped workshop, which is dedicated to our making.
Thank you for looking!
